Melody Foster has a PhD in marine biology and a master’s in genetics, specializing in octopuses all over the world. When COVID stops all funding for her Octolab, she takes a consulting job in the Cook Islands for a deepsea mining operation, looking for metallic nodules that litter the Pacific floor and contain the rare minerals needed for the electric vehicle industry. Issues with surprisingly intelligent guerrilla octopuses are monstrously hindering the operation, so billionaire Chinese mogul Jack Pa instructs “Dr. Mel” to fix the problem, or else.

With her very life at stake, Melody enters the operation’s saturation chamber at 500-feet sea depth, trying to put an end to the deliberate killing of her babies, while threatened by convicted rapists and murderers who are undergoing career rehabilitation from Chino Prison’s famous diving program. Will she survive it all long enough to discover the fate of her long lost brother, adopted away from her during childhood, and secure the funding needed to keep her lab open another year?

Must Read! Fiction meets Non-Fiction that will have you turning page after page!

I have never considered myself a “reader” and when I have chosen to pick up a book it has been non-fiction the majority of the time. “Leave the Bottom” was SUCH A PLEASANT SURPRISE! I literally couldn’t put the book down and read it cover to cover in 5 days (unheard of for me!!!) I found myself laughing out loud countless times and loved learning about octopuses and deep sea diving. It was such a perfect blend of fiction and non-fiction and the storytelling was riveting! Tops off to Randy Slapnicka and his first book! I loved it!

Great, Great book

This book was so compelling & thought provoking. Luved learning about deep sea diving entwined with a great story. Left me concerned about what the human race is is going to do to our oceans & marine life. Hope this will be a movie!

Couldn’t put it down

Not what I was expecting. I was hooked after the first page and couldn’t put it down. The author put together a unique cast of characters, that you couldn’t put the puzzle together until the end. Riveting entertainment… great job Mr Slapnicka “Slappy”!

Randy Slapnicka was born on a small farm in rural North Dakota. At nineteen years old, he decided to become a deep-sea diver and underwater welder, when up to that point he had never seen the ocean. The confidence in this decision allowed him to take risks in business for the rest of his life, eventually becoming a computer salesman, hardware manufacturer, stockbroker, real estate developer and broker, software developer, miner, restaurant/bar owner, cell tower developer, hemp investor, and now a novelist. He splits his time between Puerto Penasco and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and Arizona, USA.
